Areas We Serve

Hackensack

Hackensack is one of the towns we work with most often. Many of our Hackensack patients come to us after a referral from a primary care physician, an OB-GYN, or a hospitalist at Hackensack University Medical Center. We work entirely through secure telehealth video appointments, which often fits the schedule of a Hackensack working professional better than any in-person option.

Family Psychiatry and Therapy is a telehealth-only practice. Every appointment — psychiatric evaluation, medication management, therapy — happens by secure video from wherever you are. Hackensack patients attend appointments from home, from a quiet space at work, or from anywhere private with a stable internet connection. There is no commute, no waiting room, and no time taken out of your day for travel.

How we serve Hackensack

Many of our Hackensack patients come to us after a referral. We keep our intake process short — most new patients are seen within 1–2 weeks of calling, with longer waits only for very specialized cases. If you have already been seen at Hackensack University Medical Center or another local practice, mention that when you call: with your written consent we will request relevant records before your first appointment.

For working professionals near the courthouse, county offices, or downtown Hackensack, telehealth removes the hardest part of getting mental health care — the time off work or the lunch-hour drive across town. A 30-minute video appointment fits into a calendar that an in-person visit cannot. Most Hackensack patients see us during work hours, before work, or in the evening from home.

Conditions we treat

Our psychiatrists and therapists work with Hackensack residents across the full range of mental health needs:

Our team

Our practice is led by Helene A. Miller, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist serving northern New Jersey for over twenty years. Our full care team includes psychiatrists for medication management and licensed therapists for talk therapy. New patients are matched to the provider whose specialty best fits their needs after an initial intake conversation.

Insurance

We are in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, NJ and NY Personal Injury Protection, NJ and NY Workers’ Compensation, federal DOL/OWCP, and Braven Insurance. If you have a different plan, we are happy to verify your out-of-network benefits before your first appointment — please reach out.

Frequently Asked Questions — Hackensack

Can you accept a referral from Hackensack University Medical Center?

Yes. We regularly accept referrals from HUMC physicians and other Hackensack-area medical practices. If you have already been seen at HUMC, please mention that when you call — with your written consent, we will request relevant records before your first appointment.

How does a telehealth appointment work for Hackensack patients?

You receive a secure video link before your appointment. Click it on a phone, laptop, or tablet at the scheduled time, and you will be in session with your provider. No special software is required. You attend from a private space — home, a parked car, a quiet office. Appointments feel like in-person sessions: a real conversation with a real licensed clinician.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments for working Hackensack patients?

Yes. We offer limited evening telehealth appointments for working patients. Weekend availability is more limited but does exist. Call (201) 977-2889 to ask about specific times.

Do you treat patients from Hackensack public schools?

Yes. We work with children, teens, and young adults from Hackensack High School and surrounding schools. With parental consent we can coordinate with school counselors and 504/IEP teams when appropriate.
