Areas We Serve

Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn is one of the towns we see most often, and it is a good example of a community where families come to us together — parents and children seen by the same practice, sometimes by the same provider, sometimes by a parent–child pairing on our team. Telehealth makes that logistical reality possible: a parent can take an appointment from a quiet bedroom while a co-parent watches the kids, and a teenager can attend therapy from their own room without having to be driven anywhere or wait in a waiting room.

Family Psychiatry and Therapy is a telehealth-only practice. Every appointment — psychiatric evaluation, medication management, therapy — happens by secure video from wherever you are. Fair Lawn patients attend appointments from home, from a quiet space at work, or from anywhere private with a stable internet connection. There is no commute, no waiting room, and no time taken out of your day for travel.

How we serve Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn families come to us most often for child and adolescent ADHD, anxiety in school-aged kids, family dynamics around the teenage years, and adult depression and anxiety that surface alongside the demands of parenting. We see this pattern repeatedly: a parent brings in a child for an ADHD evaluation, and over the next few months one or both parents end up scheduling their own appointments. That is normal. Mental health runs in families, and treating the family system is often more effective than treating one person in isolation.

Because every appointment is by video, scheduling is flexible. Most Fair Lawn families fit sessions in around school pickup, evening commutes, and the rest of the things parents do. A 45-minute video appointment from the kitchen table is a different kind of accessible than a 60-minute drive to and from a clinic.

Conditions we treat

Our psychiatrists and therapists work with Fair Lawn residents across the full range of mental health needs:

Our team

Our practice is led by Helene A. Miller, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist serving northern New Jersey for over twenty years. Our full care team includes psychiatrists for medication management and licensed therapists for talk therapy. New patients are matched to the provider whose specialty best fits their needs after an initial intake conversation.

Insurance

We are in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, NJ and NY Personal Injury Protection, NJ and NY Workers’ Compensation, federal DOL/OWCP, and Braven Insurance. If you have a different plan, we are happy to verify your out-of-network benefits before your first appointment — please reach out.

Frequently Asked Questions — Fair Lawn

Do you treat children from Fair Lawn public schools?

Yes. We work with elementary, middle, and high school students from Fair Lawn schools (Fair Lawn HS, Memorial MS, Thomas Jefferson MS, and the elementary network). We can coordinate with school counselors and 504/IEP teams when families want that support.

Can our whole family see providers at the same practice?

Yes — and many Fair Lawn families do. We commonly see a parent and a child at the same practice, with separate appointments and separate clinical records. In some cases a single provider sees both, in others a parent–child pair on our team coordinate care without sharing details inappropriately. Confidentiality rules between adult and minor patients are explained at intake.

Will my child engage with telehealth therapy?

Most do. Teenagers in particular often engage more comfortably with telehealth than with in-person therapy — being in their own room is a different conversation than being in a clinic. For younger children, sessions are designed to fit the developmental stage, and parents are typically involved at the start and end of each appointment.

Do you accept Horizon BCBS for Fair Lawn patients?

Yes. We are in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield in New Jersey, which is the most common plan we see among Fair Lawn families. Other plans we accept include Aetna, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, NJ PIP, NJ Workers’ Comp, federal DOL/OWCP, and Braven Insurance.
