Areas We Serve

Bergenfield

Bergenfield is one of the most demographically diverse communities in Bergen County, and Family Psychiatry and Therapy is set up to reflect that. Our care team includes providers from a wide range of backgrounds and language fluencies, so Bergenfield patients can usually be matched with a clinician who understands their cultural and family context. We work entirely through secure telehealth video appointments — confidential, private, and accessible from anywhere.

Family Psychiatry and Therapy is a telehealth-only practice. Every appointment — psychiatric evaluation, medication management, therapy — happens by secure video from wherever you are. Bergenfield patients attend appointments from home, from a quiet space at work, or from anywhere private with a stable internet connection. There is no commute, no waiting room, and no time taken out of your day for travel.

How we serve Bergenfield

For many Bergenfield patients, the first conversation about therapy is harder than the therapy itself. Cultural attitudes about mental health vary widely, and the perceived stigma of seeing a psychiatrist or therapist can keep people from getting help even when they know they need it. We talk about this directly with patients on the first call. Confidentiality is absolute, the work is private, and you do not need to involve family unless you choose to.

Telehealth is part of why this works. There is no waiting room you might be seen in, no parking lot anyone might recognize you in. You attend from a private space of your choosing. We also work with multigenerational families: parents and adult children, sometimes grandparents, sometimes whole households navigating a single member’s diagnosis together. A college student home for break can attend a session from their bedroom; a parent can attend from another room of the same house.

Conditions we treat

Our psychiatrists and therapists work with Bergenfield residents across the full range of mental health needs:

Our team

Our practice is led by Helene A. Miller, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist serving northern New Jersey for over twenty years. Our full care team includes psychiatrists for medication management and licensed therapists for talk therapy. New patients are matched to the provider whose specialty best fits their needs after an initial intake conversation.

Insurance

We are in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, NJ and NY Personal Injury Protection, NJ and NY Workers’ Compensation, federal DOL/OWCP, and Braven Insurance. If you have a different plan, we are happy to verify your out-of-network benefits before your first appointment — please reach out.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bergenfield

Do you have providers who speak languages other than English?

Several members of our team speak languages other than English. The best way to be matched with a multilingual provider is to mention your language preference when you call (201) 977-2889 — we will check current availability and match you accordingly. If we cannot match in your preferred language, we can recommend other practices.

Will my appointment be confidential? My family does not know I am calling.

Yes. All adult patient appointments are fully confidential under HIPAA. We will not contact family, employers, schools, or anyone else without your written permission. Because every appointment is by telehealth, there is also no waiting room or parking lot where anyone might see you. The only confidentiality exceptions are very narrow safety situations defined by law, which we explain at intake.

How private is a telehealth appointment, really?

More private than most in-person options. Sessions happen on a HIPAA-compliant encrypted video platform. You receive a unique appointment link that only you can use. We recommend attending from a quiet, private space — a bedroom with the door closed, a parked car, or any space where you will not be overheard.

Do you treat children and teens from Bergenfield schools?

Yes. We see children, teens, and young adults from Bergenfield High School, Roy W. Brown Middle School, and the surrounding elementary schools. With parental consent we can coordinate with school counselors when that is helpful.
